Dear Community,
What makes Salsa dancing so popular? Why do
people who dance salsa appear happier, healthier
and in a better frame of mind in relation to others?
Dancing Salsa can play an important role in
enhancing health, well being and social life.
Most of you have probably heard or read somewhere
about the health benefits of dancing. Let me give you
some of the more prominent ones to considered:
| DANCE |
 |
|
- Is a great cardio activity that is fun; it's a lot
- easier to spend 3 hours dancing than forty-five
minutes on the treadmill.
- Burns 420+ calories per hour based on a 150-
pound person,Improves
- balance and posture
- Helps with weight loss
- Increases flexibility
- Helps develop better circulation
- Improves coordination
- Increases energy and metabolism
- Helps reduce other health issues (e.g.,
depression)
These reasons alone should be enough to make you
want to try salsa dancing. But just in case let's
analyze the social aspect of it.
|
| Inspires positive attitude towards your daily life. |
 |
|
Dancing helps change and balances your mental
state to a more positive one. The best way to achieve
this is by doing it on a regular basis. Dancing and the
social contact uplifts the spirit, if done regularly. You
will notice how your daily activities and your overall
outlook on life becomes more pleasant. This is why
people say that dancing changes lives. Ok, any
Dancing changes our lives; but yes I am biased to
Salsa!
|
| It facilitates meeting new people/friends. |
 |
|
Questions: How many long-lasting friends did you
make the last time you went to a social event or a bar
(bartender n/a)? Salsa dancing is the perfect social
ground for new friendships. People who dance salsa
do it for the love of dance. You already know you have
something in common with all those people. You also
get to dance face to face, and create a rapport. This
contact is the perfect setting for developing
conversation, which usually involves more people.
And guess what, these people also like salsa. Next
thing: Let's get together to the club or lets have a party
at your/my house!
|
| Increasing self-esteem and confidence. |
 |
|
If you are shy, this is the safest way to interact with
people. The salsa community is an open and
extremely friendly one. From the moment you step in
the door, you will feel welcomed - it's true. As you
progress in your dancing the fun will increase as well,
introducing you to a whole new level. And let's not
forget the exhilarating Latin music! Seeing yourself
become more fit, active and social is an enormous
boost in confidence!
Is dance for everyone? Really, can anyone do it?
|
| Yes you can! |
 |
|
Not everyone can become the greatest dancer in the
world, but everyone has something to gain from the
effort. Some people will be affected more than others,
some people will try it and move on, but everyone will
benefit from trying.

"JAS" Jose A. Santamaria |

José spent his childhood in El Salvador, where music,
dance, family and friends helped him to survive the
violent civil war. Arriving in the United States at age 12,
José began a journey that required him to step into a
number of different roles including: illegal immigrant,
resident, citizen, soldier, salsa dancer, and instructor.
A history of diverse experiences helped José to
develop a unique understanding of community, the
cultural challenges that people face, and the
senselessness of violence.
